how to choose the right dumpster sizeWhen you have a major demolition project looming, you’ll need to know how to choose the right dumpster size to manage the waste. Dumpsters are heavy and difficult to move, so you want to pick right on the first try. Otherwise, you might be spending a lot more on disposal than you should. Let us walk you through a few basic tips that will help you determine exactly what you need before the work starts.

Materials Matter When Choosing Your Dumpster Size

One of the first things to consider is what you’ll actually be dumping. Some refuse, like tree branches and shrubbery, is easy to break down and manage, but other materials are bulky and awkward. If you plan ahead, you can make sure your dumpster dimensions accommodate the items you’ll be pitching. If you lack the equipment to deconstruct some of the larger objects, they have to fit as is.

You also need to consider which materials can be serviced by your dumpster. Is there anything deemed hazardous? Are there unmanageable substances like insoluble liquids? Do your materials need to be sorted before dumping? Answering these questions will help you pick a dumpster that is both the correct size and rated for your purposes. Don’t forget about recycling, too. A separate bin for recycling can help you save on rental space, but you’ll need to be careful to sort your materials as you work so you don’t have to dig through later.

What Do the Different Dumpster Sizes You Choose Mean?

In general, dumpsters are measured in yards. For each yard in the size, the dumpster can hold one cubic yard of material. This list can help you gauge projects:

  • 5 Yards: This handles projects like small single-room renovations, such as a bathroom.
  • 10 Yards: These are better for a single, normal-sized room.
  • 15 Yards: This is the generically good size that you see in apartment complexes and the like.
  • 20 Yards: This does bigger deals like roofing replacements or floor removals.
  • 30 Yards: These big boys are suited for massive undertakings and are usually rated for four tons of refuse.
  • 40 Yards: It’s hard to find anything bigger. You only need this when all else falls short.

The Right Company for the Right Dumpster

When you need to do major demolition, you need a professional-grade dumpster to manage the job. It’s astonishing how quickly a big project can get out of control if you don’t have an easy way to dispose of the debris – and big black plastic bags are not going to cut it on this project. Our experts can help you gauge sizes to make sure you don’t spend too much on your rental or fall short on space halfway through your project.
